Curriculum: Essential Learnings: SOSE
Knowledge and Understanding:
- Natural hazards are a result of natural processes and human activity can affect the impacts of these occurences
Ways of Working:
- Collect and analyse information and evidence from primary and secondary sources
- Evaluate sources of information and eveidence for relevence, reliablity, origins and perspective
- Draw conclusions and make decisions based on information and evidence by identifying patters and connections
- Communicate descriptions, decisions and conclusions, using different text types for specific purposes and the conventions of researched based texts
- Respond to investigation findings and conclusions by planning and implimenting actions
- Reflect on learning, apply new understandings and indentify future applications
The students are in groups of four. These groups are of mixed ability so that students are able to help each other to build their research and ICT skills. This inquiry is expected to take five weeks with the students able to have 1-2 hours per day to work on it. By the end of the inquiry the students will have gained more knowledge and understanding of natural disasters and how human activty can affect their impact. This inquiry will also have given the students the opportunity to refine their research and ICT skills. The evaluation page contains a link to the the criteria sheet for this webquest.
